Edit Existing Keywords

Use the Edit Existing Keywords page to review your keyword choices, edit keyword information, or remove keywords you have chosen during the campaign or ad group creation process.

Opening the Edit Existing Keywords Page

The Create Campaign process and the Create Ad Group process take you through the series of pages you need to create a new campaign or ad group. During these processes, you are asked to choose the keywords that you would like to include. Once you make your keyword selections and move on to the next step, you may go back and edit your keyword selections by clicking the Previous button to open the Edit Keywords page.

To open the Edit Existing Keyword page in the Create Campaign process:

  1. Click the Dashboard tab. The Dashboard page opens.

  2. Click the Create Campaign button. The Create a Campaign page opens.

  3. Click the Get Started button. The Enter Campaign Name and Geo-Targeting page opens.

  4. Complete the step and click the Next: Select Tactic button. The Create an Ad Group page opens.

  5. Complete the step and click the Next: Choose Keywords button. The Choose Keywords page opens.

  6. Complete the step and click the Next: Bid button. The Set Your Ad Group Bid page opens.

  7. Click the Previous button. The Edit Keywords page opens.

To open the Edit Existing Keyword page in the Create Ad Group process:

  1. Click the Campaigns tab > Summary subtab. The Campaigns page opens.

  2. Identify a campaign and click its link. The Campaign Details page opens.

  3. Click the Create Ad Group link. The Create an Ad Group page opens.

  4. Complete the step and click the Next button. The Choose Keywords page opens.

  5. Complete the step and click the Next button. The Set Your Ad Group Bid page opens.

  6. Click the Previous button. The Edit Keywords page opens.

Downloading Keyword Selections

To download your keyword selections to a spreadsheet:

  1. Open the Edit Existing Keyword page.

  2. Click the Download Keywords link in the upper right corner of the page.

  3. Choose CSV or TSV format.

  4. Click the Save button to save the keywords to your computer.

  5. Use a spreadsheet program to view and edit the keywords spreadsheet.

Editing Excluded Words

To edit the excluded words defined for the ad group:

  1. Open the Edit Existing Keyword page.

  2. Find the Excluded Words field on the right side, just above the table and click the edit link. The Edit Excluded Words dialogue box opens.

  3. Enter or remove any excluded words you would like in this ad group. Excluded Words will help you refine the matches you receive through the advanced match type by blocking certain searches that you believe will not be relevant.

  4. View the account excluded words to ensure that you are not adding any duplicates.

Deleting Keywords

To delete keywords:

  1. Open the Edit Existing Keyword page.

  2. Click the checkboxes corresponding to the keywords that you would like to delete.

  3. Click the Delete button. The Delete Keyword dialogue box opens.

  4. Click the Yes button. Your keywords are deleted from the ad group.

Editing Keywords

To edit keywords:

  1. Open the Edit Existing Keyword page.

  2. Identify the keyword and click its link. The Edit Keyword Information dialogue box opens.

  3. You can edit the following keyword information:

    • Bid – Your bid is the maximum amount you are willing to pay for a click You can enter either a custom bid or the minimum bid that is required for the keyword to stay actaive.

    • Custom URL – A custom URL is unique to a keyword and overrides the ad URL.

    • Alternate Text – Use alternate text to display your ad with different text in place of the keyword. Alternate text overrides the default keyword replacement provided that insertion of the alternate text does not cause the title and description to exceed the maximum length allowed. If inserting the alternate text causes the title or description to exceed the maximum length, the default text defined in the keyword token will be used.

    • Match Type

    • Ads that use the standard match type are displayed for exact matches to your keywords, as well as for singular or plural variations and common misspellings.

    • Ads that use the advanced match type are displayed for a broader range of searches related to your keywords, titles, descriptions and/or web content. By default, all ads are set to the advanced match type.

  4. When you have finished, click the Save Changes button. Your keyword information is updated.
