What is Search Suggest Beta?
Search Suggestions is a feature of Yahoo! Search that analyzes your search in real-time and instantly provides relevant alternate search terms and phrases as you type.

Are the Search Suggestions from my Search History?
No. The suggestions are based on what other Yahoo! users have searched for and are not related to the Search History feature.

How does it work?
As you type a search, Search Suggestions compares it to searches other Yahoo! users have composed and suggests completed searches that might be helpful.

These suggestions are not from your search history. The suggestions come from an algorithm that considers hundreds of thousands of possible search terms that have been used by other Yahoo! users. For more information about how Yahoo treats your personal information, please see our privacy policy.

How will using Search Suggestions Beta be helpful to me?
Search Suggestions makes searching the Web faster and easier by:

  • Predicting what you are searching for as you type.
  • Providing relevant suggestions in real-time.
  • Suggesting alternate searches and concepts that help communicate what you are looking for.

It is a big improvement on having to type one search after another to get the results you want.

Why shouldn't I be afraid of it?
Search Suggestions is simply a tool to help you express what it is you are looking for. To deliver search suggestions, we look at the words and phrasing other people have used to search and with some behind-the-scenes processing, we can suggest likely search queries.

Does Search Suggestions track me while I search?
No, Search Suggestions simply makes suggestions based on what all users in general tend to find helpful and doesn't look at searches you in particular make. Search Suggestions is an automated process that depends on algorithmic formulas to make suggestions that are helpful and relevant.

To make search suggestions, we look at search terms that are more popular based on the number of times they are entered into Yahoo! Search.

Can I turn Search Suggestions off and on?
Yes, Click the "disable" link at the bottom of the Search Suggestions dropdown to stop suggestions from appearing. To turn Search Suggestions on again, click the "more" link above the search box on the front page. In the dropdown menu, click "Enable Search Suggestions."
