Yes! Here’s how:

Open the Messenger menu and select Preferences.

Click the "Alerts & Sounds" category.

From the "Alert me when" list, choose any of the events that you would like to trigger an alert. If you’d like a sound to play, check the “Enable alert sounds” box above the list. You can choose different sounds by clicking Browse below the list.

If you’d rather not hear any sounds, un-check the “Enable alert sounds” box.

Want text alerts? Great — configure the text alerts you want below the list. You can also disable text alerts by clearing all the checkboxes.

Are you alerted out? ;o) Us too. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
