What is Open Talk and how do I use it?

Open Talk lets your Yahoo! Messenger contacts instantly connect a PC call to your PC without needing you to accept. Once connected, your friend will be able to hear all conversations and sounds near your PC. To set up one of your contacts with the new Open Talk feature, follow these instructions:

  1. Click the "Messenger" menu at the top of your Messenger List.
  2. Select "My Status."
  3. Select "Open Talk."
  4. In the text box that appears, type the words you wish to have displayed next to your name (Example: Call me now!)
  5. Click "OK."
  6. You will see a warning screen appear confirming your decision.
    • Click "OK" (you will see this again the next time you set up another contact with Open Talk).
    • Check the "Do not show this warning again" (and just as it says, we will not warn you again when setting up a contact with Open Talk).

When Open Talk is turned on, friends on your contact list will see a purple telephone icon and a link with the words "Open Talk" to the right of your name. When they click the link, they'll automatically be connected to your PC for PC-to-PC calling fun.

To turn Open Talk off, just follow steps 1 and 2 and choose any one of the other status messages available.
