Entered content in Contact Search Bar that does not match your contact details? Whoops. If so, Yahoo! Messenger assumes you're entering information you've memorized. To save the contact you're entering, just follow these steps:

1. If the information typed in the Contact Search Bar does not match the contact details, select "instant message" from the search results option.
2. An instant message window will appear. Click the Plus icon located to the right of the sender's ID in the IM window.
3. Click the "Next" button.
4. Select the group and identity you would like to add this contact under. You can also include a brief message along with the request.
5. Click the "Finish" button.

If you're entering information in the Contact Search Bar (new information for a contact that already exists), the easiest way to enter this information is to edit the contact details for your friend.

To edit contact information for individuals on your Messenger List:

1. Right-click on the individual in your Messenger List and select "Contact Details."
2. Enter or edit the information and click the "Save & Close" button.
