What is the difference between private and public folders?

Yahoo! Briefcase gives you the option of sharing your files with other people. Begin by going to the Yahoo! Briefcase home page.

  1. Log in with your Yahoo! ID and password if prompted.
  2. Click the "Create Folder or Album" link.
  3. Choose the type of folder that you want to create (remember an album can only contain GIF and JPG files).

You can share items with people in two ways: give them access to the folders in your briefcase, or email them the links to the items.

"Sharing" is associated with the contents of a folder. When creating a folder, you determine who to share it with - everybody, nobody, or only specific people.

  • If you select "Private" for your folder or album, nobody can access it.
  • If you select "Everyone" for your folder, anybody can access it.
  • If you select "Friends" for your folder or album, only the people whose Yahoo! IDs you list can access it.

At any time, you can change who has access to a folder by clicking on "Edit" next to the folder or album name (on the front page of your briefcase).

The easiest way to point somebody to your folder is to copy its URL and send it to them. You can also tell a person to go to the front page of your briefcase where they can find the folders or albums they have permission to access.
