The Java Portfolio Manager (JPM) allows you to display and edit your portfolios and views in one interface. To use it, you need Netscape or MS Internet Explorer version 3.0 or higher. The JPM has been tested on Windows (2000 and NT) as well as one flavor of Unix, but should run well on most platforms. This is a beta application, and is missing some features which will be added in the full version. The JPM has a number of benefits over "classic" (HTML-based) portfolios:
-
Handy viewing features. Clicking on any column sorts the stocks by the information in that column (eg. by value, biggest change, biggest gain). Total portfolio annual return is also displayed, unlike classic portfolios.
-
Natural editing interface. Columns and rows can be moved or deleted using drag and drop. User-entered values (eg. number of shares) in the portfolio can be clicked on and edited in place, with derived values (eg. holdings value) immediately updated to reflect the change. You can sort rows by any column's values by clicking on that column's heading.
-
Versatility. You can use the portfolio manager for editing and viewing, or use it as an editor for classic portfolios while viewing your portfolio(s) in HTML.
