Download Spreadsheet Format

A "Download Spreadsheet Format" link is provided at the end of your stock quotes. Click this link to download a file that should be readable by most spreadsheet programs, such as Excel and Quicken. Typically, you'll want to save this file to disk to be opened by the spreadsheet program. Macintosh Netscape users can ignore the message about needing a plug-in and just save the file to disk.

In Excel, open this file as a comma-separated text file. In Quicken, use the "Import Prices" command.

Note: The format of the data is subject to change, including the addition of other fields. The data currently listed in this format are: ticker symbol, last price, date, time, change, open price, daily high, daily low, and volume.

Netscape 4.0 Users: Unfortunately, Netscape 4.0 no longer recognises the download format as one that should be saved to disk by default. A workaround to this problem is available by following these steps:

  1. Select "Preferences" in the Edit menu.
  2. Choose "Applications" under "Navigator."
  3. Scroll through the list to find "Microsoft Excel Comma Separated Values File."
  4. Click the "Edit" button and change the "MIME Type" field (which should be blank) to read application/octet-stream.

These instructions apply to the Windows version of Netscape. Other versions might vary slightly.
