Web-based calendars are a great way to share information and promote events or appearances. Yahoo! Web Hosting's Public Yahoo! Calendar tool sends visitors to the public version of your Yahoo! calendar so they can view your schedule.
card verification value
A card verification value, also called a credit card verification code, is a security code designed to protect your credit card from fraudulent use. For VISA, MasterCard, and Discover cards, the number is the last three digits (usually set off by themselves) on the Signature Panel on the back of the card. For American Express, it's the four digits printed above your account number on the face of the card.
If you have a Merchant Solutions plan, you can use Catalog Manager to manage your inventory of products, including pricing and detail information. Add up to 50 product attributes per item, organize items into categories, and then use this data to review your inventory levels (to determine, for example, how many XL green shirts you have in stock). You can enter your products one by one or upload them from a .csv file. Learn more.
A catch-all mailbox is a Business Email feature that allows you to receive email sent to your domain that might be misaddressed or misspelled (for example, bob@ instead of email@example.com) — even mail sent to email addresses at your domain that don't exist — rather than having the email "bounced," or returned to the sender. If you have Merchant Solutions plan, we'll automatically create your store's checkout pages for you, which includes your shopping cart, shipping and billing information, and order review and confirmation screens. You can control how many of these pages are displayed, customize these pages to make them visually consistent with your web site design, and add custom messages, fields, gift wrapping choices, cross-sell recommendations, and more. You can also save customers' shopping cart contents for two weeks, giving them multiple opportunities to complete their purchase. Learn more.
Click trails show the paths customers take through your web site. You can use this data to discover which paths lead to purchase, as well as determine the best way to direct people through your site. Available in [merchant_solutions_product2/] and [merchant_solutions_product3/] plans. Learn more.
We've partnered with Commission Junction, a company that helps merchants create affiliate marketing programs. If you have a Merchant Solutions plan, you can participate as an Advertiser or Publisher. Advertisers post ads on other participants' sites, and when their ads generate sales, they pay a commission to the hosting site. Publishers, on the other hand, post an Advertiser's ad on their own site. When visitors from their site go to the advertiser's site, and make a purchase (or fill out a form, or whatever's specified in the advertiser/publisher agreement), the Publisher receives a commission. Commission Junction serves and tracks the ad placements; handles the fee collection and processing; and offers reporting so Advertisers can track the success of their advertising efforts. Learn more.
If you're using the new Yahoo! Mail interface, the Contacts folder is your online address book, which can store contact information for up to 5,000 individuals and companies. Also known as the Yahoo! Address Book in the original mail interface. Learn more about Yahoo! Contacts.
A counter is a program that you can set up to keep a tally of the number of people who have viewed that page. You can make your counter viewable by your site visitors or invisible, if you simply want to keep track of your page views. The Counter add-on allows you to easily add a counter to your web page. With Coupon Manager, you can create coupons redeemable at your store for a specific dollar amount, percentage off, or free shipping. Your customers enter the coupon code during the checkout process, and we'll automatically calculate and display the discount on the following page. Coupon Manager also lets you track the performance of specific coupons, so you can see how many times they've been used, check how much revenue they've generated, and review graphs of their performance. Available in [merchant_solutions_product2/] and [merchant_solutions_product3/] plans. Learn more.
A cron job is a command available to Unix system users that makes possible the automated execution of a task at predefined time intervals. One might set up a cron job to create hourly backups of a database, for example, or to send daily emails. Yahoo! currently does not support the use of cron jobs, but we hope to offer this feature with your plan in the future.
If you have a [merchant_solutions_product2/] or [merchant_solutions_product3/] plan, you can use our Cross-Sell Manager to dynamically suggest related products when customers place items in their shopping carts — and help boost your customers' spending per visit. For example, if a person places a digital camera in his or her cart, Cross-Sell Manager can automatically recommend a memory card, batteries, or photo editing software to the user. You can determine which products are recommended, set start and end dates for specific cross-sell offers, and even provide special pricing for cross-sell items to encourage your users to buy. CSS, or Cascading Style Sheets, is a language used to define the presentation of documents written in HTML and other markup languages. Web developers can use CSS to control the display of a page or site (its layout, fonts, colors, and more) without having to change its structure or contents. The flexibility offered by CSS makes it easy to change the look of an entire site or page with just a few changes.
A .csv file is a format that allows you to save database or spreadsheet information as a text file, in which each field of data is separated by a comma (for example, "Backpack, Blue, 04678, $49.95"). If you have a Merchant Solutions plan, you can upload your entire product inventory as a .csv file and avoid entering each product individually. You can also download your inventory as a .csv file. Custom Error Pages
The Custom Error Pages feature allows you to personalize the page that appears when your site visitor encounters a problem while viewing your web site. You can use this tool to help eliminate your visitors' confusion by explaining how to remedy the issue. For example, when a visitor tries to view a page that you have deleted, he will typically encounter a generic "404 not found" error. With Custom Error Pages, you could replace this message with friendlier directions to a new page. Similarly, you might replace the basic "401 authorization required" error that occurs when a visitor enters incorrect sign-in information on a password-protected page with helpful instructions and contact information. When you sign up for Custom Mailbox, you'll get one email address that matches your domain, such as firstname.lastname@example.org, plus a separate inbox to store your messages. Your plan also includes a catch-all mailbox, unlimited email storage, POP access, mail forwarding, spam and virus protection, and more. Learn more.
