Bandwidth Settings

With certain connection types, Windows Media Player has difficulty determining your available download rate. This most often occurs with connections where the download and upload speeds are very different, such as with cable or satellite. In these situations, manually setting your bandwidth within Windows Media Player can correct some connection issues.

To change the speed at which Windows Media Player attempts to download content, follow these steps:

  1. Start the Windows Media Player software.
  2. On the Tools menu, select "Options."
  3. Click the "Performance" tab.
  4. In the "My connection speed is" box, choose the appropriate setting. You should set this speed to match the speed of your Internet connection.
  5. Click "OK."
