How can I protect myself from buying a lemon?

Often called a manufacturer buyback, a lemon vehicle has repeated major problems and has been repurchased by a manufacturer and reported to the state. Yahoo! Canada Autos offers a free service which will help you avoid buying a lemon or vehicle that has had its odometer rolled back.

If the car you are considering buying was manufactured in 1981 or after, it will have a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), usually located on the front right corner of the dashboard as you face the car or under the hood. Once you have this number, go the Yahoo! Canada Autos home page and click on \"Get a Free Lemon Check\" in the Research section. Or, you can go there directly. Enter in the VIN and click \"Click Here for your free Vehicle Lemon Check\" at the bottom of the page. Yahoo! Canada Autos' partner Carfax will instantly check its nationwide database of over 700 million vehicle records collected from departments of motor vehicles, emissions inspection stations, auto auctions and more. Additionally, you can order a report of the full used car history, including flood damage, odometer fraud, and salvage history.
