Yahoo! Acct > Yahoo! Account Information

What is the difference between primary and alternate email addresses?

Yahoo! allows you to enter up to five alternate (non-Yahoo!) email addresses on your account. If you have entered multiple alternate email addresses, you can choose which one will be your primary alternate email address.

Yahoo! sends messages regarding your account, such as new password requests and password change notifications, to your primary alternate email address. Within the "Options" section of some Yahoo! services, you can select among your alternate email addresses or Yahoo! Mail address for use with that particular service.

For example, you can choose which email address you would like to use for receiving Auctions notifications, Yahoo! Groups emails, and Yahoo! Calendar reminders.

Most Yahoo! services require that you verify your alternate email address prior to use.

It is important to keep your contact information updated at all times in case you ever need to request a new password online, or if we need to communicate with you and you are unable to access your Yahoo! Mail account.
