How do I restrict my child from using non-browser programs that access the Internet?

The Web Filter feature is intended for filtering access in browser applications and no other kinds of applications. However, there are many other applications that access the Internet—for example, FTP, Telnet, email programs, and peer-to-peer programs. The Web Filter does not filter content in these applications, but it can completely block use of these applications.

If you want to prevent the use of these applications for a particular child, you can do this in the Web Filter settings. Enabling this option blocks all non-browser programs that attempt to access the Internet. To do this:

  1. Go to Parental Controls.
  2. Click on the appropriate child's name.
  3. If the child's access level is set to Full Access, change it to one of the other settings and save those settings.
  4. Click Edit Settings for the Web Filter.
  5. At the bottom of the page, select the option Restrict all internet applications.
  6. Click Save Settings.

To protect your family with these features, you must create accounts for each member. Furthermore, you must install and activate a program on each PC used.
