How do the Parental Control settings compare?

There are four different settings—Kids, Teens, Mature Teens, and Full Access—that you can apply to an ID. Each of these settings has different initial restrictions for each component of Parental Controls. The table below shows three fictional IDs that parents would create and the initial features these fictional family members would get for the settings their parents give them.

Below are some explanations of the terms used above.

Yahooligans! This is a special site for the Kids access level that contains the Yahooligans! Directory. Each site in Yahooligans! has been carefully checked by an experienced educator to ensure the content and links are appropriate. Restrictions For Teens, the restrictions apply to accessing sites categorized under Abortion, Alcohol, Criminal Skills, Cults, Drugs, Gambling, Hacking, Hate, Mature Content, Occult, Personals/Dating, Pornography, Weapons, Tobacco, Unknown, and Violence. For Mature Teens, sites categorized under Abortion, Weapons, Unknown, and Violence can be accessed, although the remainder of the categories for Teens still applies.

Address Book

For Kids and Teens, you have to give your child your permission to add people to the Address Book in Rogers Yahoo! Mail.

Attachments

Kids are not allowed to send or receive attachments—for example, document, photo, sound or video files—on their email.

Friends List

For Kids and Teens, you have to give your child your permission to add people to the Friends List in Rogers Yahoo! Messenger.

Messenger Features

The following communications over Rogers Yahoo! Messenger are controlled:

  • Webcam, a way to send live pictures between friends
  • File Transfer, a way to send any computer file
  • File Sharing, a way to preview files such as photos
  • Voice, a way to use the connection as a telephone
  • Conference, a way to link together more than two friends

All these features are not allowed family members assigned the Kids access level. Webcam and Voice communications are allowed Teens, although the remainder of the denied features for Kids still applies to Teens.

Rogers Services

The following services are controlled:

  • Groups
  • Chat
  • Message Boards

Online Timer

The online timer enables access for a span you set, and if necessary, extend. It's initially off.

Report Card

The report card informs you of your child's internet activity. It's initially off.
