I'm receiving the alert "A script on this page is causing Mozilla to run slowly." What do I do?

Mozilla Firefox displays the following error message if it notices a script consuming an unusual amount of system resources:

"A script on this page is causing Mozilla to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?"

If you're receiving this error message on many web pages, it's most likely due to a recently installed extension or plugin. You can disable extensions one at a time to find the problematic one by doing the following:

  1. Select "Extensions" from the Tools menu.
  2. Right-click the most recently installed extension and select "Disable" from the context menu.
  3. Exit Extensions Manager.
  4. Close all browser windows.
  5. Restart Firefox and check if you see the alert.

Repeat these steps until you've disabled all the extensions or the alert disappears. When you discover which extension was causing the alert, please notify the author of the extension about the problem.
