How do I share stuff with my friends using Rogers Yahoo! Toolbar?

There are many ways you can share stuff with your friends using the new Messenger button on the Rogers Yahoo! Toolbar:

  • Use a web page as your Messenger status.
  • IM a page to someone.
  • Highlight text and IM it to someone.

Messenger Status

To set a web page as your status in Rogers Yahoo! Messenger, please do the following:

  1. Visit a web page you want to share.
  2. Click "Messenger" on your toolbar.
  3. Select "Set My Status to this URL".

Now all your friends can see that URL next to your name in their Messenger Contact list and select it to see what you're seeing.

IM a page

You can IM a web page to someone on your Messenger Contact list by doing the following:

  1. Visit a web page you want to share.
  2. Click "Messenger" on your toolbar.
  3. Select "Share this page" or "Send this Page".
  4. Rogers Yahoo! Messenger then prompts you to select someone from your contact list, then open an IM window with the title and URL of the page you're viewing already entered.

IM selected text

You can send any text on a web page using Smart Tools:

  1. Visit a web page with text you want to share.
  2. Select the text you want to share.
  3. The Yahoo! Smart Tools icon will appear next to the selected text (see the Smart Tools Help for more information on Smart Tools).
  4. Move the mouse pointer over the Smart Tools icon and select "Share this".
  5. Select "by IM" from the "Share this" menu.
  6. Rogers Yahoo! Messenger then prompts you to select someone from your contact list, then open an IM window with the title and URL of the page you're viewing, as well as the selected text already entered.

The Messenger button requires Rogers Yahoo! Toolbar 6.2 for Internet Explorer or newer, and Rogers Yahoo! Messenger 7.0 or newer. To check the version of your toolbar, select "About Yahoo! Toolbar" from the Pencil menu. To check the version of your Rogers Yahoo! Messenger client, select "About Yahoo! Messenger" from the Help menu.

If you have Rogers Yahoo! Toolbar 6.2 for Internet Explorer and Rogers Yahoo! Messenger installed, but don't have the Messenger button on your toolbar, you can add it to your Rogers Yahoo! Toolbar now (this requires sign-in).
