POP Rogers Yahoo! Mail with Microsoft Outlook Express

Do you want to read and send your Rogers Yahoo! email with Outlook Express? If you are a Rogers Yahoo! Mail user you can. Here’s how to set up Outlook Express to read and send Rogers Yahoo! Mail.

  1. Click Tools | Accounts. Internet Accounts opens.
  2. Click Mail. Click Add | Mail.

  3. Type your name you as want it to appear when you send an email message.

    Click Next when you are done. The Internet E-mail Address section opens.

  4. Type your Rogers Yahoo! Mail email address (for example, jo.bloggs@rogers.com).

    Click Next when you are done. The E-mail Server Names section opens.

  5. Do the following for the E-mail Server Names section:
    • My Incoming mail server is a: Select POP3 from the pull-down menu.
    • Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server: Type pop.broadband.rogers.com.
    • Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: Type smtp.broadband.rogers.com.

    Click Next when you are done. The Internet Mail Logon section opens.

  6. Do the following for the Internet Mail Logon section:
    • Account Name: Type your Rogers Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@rogers.com").
    • Password: Type your Rogers Yahoo! password.
    • Select the Remember Password checkbox if you don't want Outlook Express to prompt you for your password each time you check your mail.
    Do not select Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) Make sure this checkbox has no check in it.

    Click Next. The final section of Internet Connection Wizard opens.

  7. Click Finish to save your account and exit the wizard. Internet Accounts appears again and you use it to provide Rogers Yahoo! Mail the information required for outgoing mail server authentication.
  8. Select pop.broadband.rogers.com under Account in the Mail tab, and then click Properties.

  9. Click Servers . Under Outgoing Mail Server, select My server requires authentication.

  10. Click Advanced and do the following:

    • Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP) , make sure that the checkbox labelled This server requires a secure connection (SSL) is not checked.
    • In Outgoing Mail (SMTP), type 587 for the port number.
    • Under Incoming Mail (POP3), make sure that the checkbox labelled This server requires a secure connection (SSL) is not checked, and that the number in the Incoming Mail (POP3) field is 110.

  11. Click OK to save the properties. pop.broadband.rogers.com Properties closes, and Internet Accounts reappears.
  12. Click Close to close Internet Accounts.

You are now set up to send and receive Rogers Yahoo! Mail using Outlook Express.

Troubleshooting tips

If you still can’t send Rogers Yahoo! Mail from Outlook Express, you might be accessing the Internet through an ISP that is blocking the SMTP port. If this is the case, try using port 587 when sending email via Rogers Yahoo!'s SMTP server. To change the port to 587:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Accounts. Internet Accounts opens.
  2. Click Mail, select pop.broadband.rogers.com, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Advanced. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box, type 587.

  4. Click Apply, and then click OK to close Internet E-mail Settings. pop.broadband.rogers.com Properties closes, and Internet Accounts reappears.
  5. Click Close to close Account Settings.

Note: You must be a Rogers Yahoo! Mail user to read Rogers Yahoo! Mail in an email reader program such as Microsoft Outlook.

ISP: Internet Service Provider, the service providing access to the Internet.
Port: A software connection computers use to exchange data directly.
