What is text messaging?

Text messaging = sending and receiving written messages on a variety of devices via “short message service” (SMS). Since you’ve got a keyboard in front of you with all the letters on it, we thought we’d bring “texting” to your desktop.

By clicking the down-arrow on the Compose button and clicking Text Message, you can text a friend something like “Where r u?” They'll get the message on their mobile device.
