After deleting a message, how do I go back to the folder I’m working in instead of going onto the next message?

OK, take a deep breath. Ready?

If you’re reading a message in its own tab

  • (double-click on a message inside any of your folders, including the Inbox, to read a message in its own tab)

or if you’re reading a message in its own complete, separate window

  • (which you can open once you have the message open in its own tab by clicking the window-on-top-of-a-window icon on the far right, above the message)

…and you don’t want to see the next message after you move or delete the one you’re reading (by clicking either Move or Delete in the toolbar above the message), you can go back to the folder you started from in the first place. Sweet!

Here’s how:

  • Click Options in the upper-right corner of your Mail page.
  • From the list on the left side, click General.
  • Midway down this page, find “After moving/deleting message”.
  • Click in the circle next to “Go back to the original folder”.
  • Above the options area, click Save Changes. Done!

Is this enough information?
Great! Click this button to go back.
Ok, click this button for a feedback form.
