How do I use archived messages? |
After you download an archive of messages, you'll have a ZIP file on your computer or online in your Rogers Yahoo! Briefcase.
Your email messages, located within the ZIP archive, are in a common email ("eml") file format. This format preserves the formatting and attachments in your original messages. Each file in the archive is named according to the original subject line of the email message.
To view your messages on your computer, you have several options:
- Option 1 (recommended): Using a compression utility such as WinZip, drag and drop all message files from the ZIP archive directly into your Outlook Express inbox or other Outlook Express folder. You can then sort, search, and read emails according to name, date, subject, etc. Messages archived and imported to your Outlook Express email client can be replied to or forwarded as you'd normally reply to or forward emails.
Note: Outlook Express is currently the only email client that offers this function.
- Option 2: Decompress the message files onto your hard drive, then double-click each one individually. On most computers, your message files open automatically within Outlook Express.
- Option 3: Decompress the message files onto your hard drive, then use another application to open each email message individually. Some applications, such as Netscape Mail, allow you to open your message files from the File menu by selecting "Open." You can also open messages using a common text reader by simply changing the file extension from "eml" to "txt." Please note that changing the file extension does not decode the message formatting and attachments.
Important: Messages you archive are copies of your online messages and are for offline use only. If you delete them after archiving them, they can't be imported back into your Rogers Yahoo! Mail account.
