Why am I receiving an error when I send mail from Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Mac Mail, etc.?

If you received an error message (553) while sending an email via your external mail client, your alternate or Rogers email address is not verified. To properly use your POP service, please follow these instructions.

  1. Access Rogers Yahoo! Mail by going to http://rogers.mail.yahoo.com and logging in with your @rogers.com or @nl.rogers.com ID and password.
  2. Once within web mail, click Options in the upper-right corner of the page.
    1. If you are using Rogers Yahoo! Mail, click Mail Option, then Accounts from the left hand menu and then the Add or Edit an Account link.
    2. If you are using Rogers Yahoo! Mail Classic, click Mail Addresses from the "Management" section.
  3. Click Add.
  4. In the Account Name field, enter a name for your own reference (for example, Work, School, My Domain, etc.) and click Continue.
  5. Type in a name for outgoing email in the Name field (this is the name the person receiving email will see).
  6. In the Email field, type the alternate email address you would like send mail from (You'll be asked to verify this other address in an email we will send to this account.) Click Continue.
  7. Next, you'll see "Step 3 Setup Mail Server." Click Skip this Step.
  8. On the next page, click Send Verification to generate the email sent to your alternate email to ensure this is an actual account you use.
  9. The "Verify Account" page opens. Here's the easiest way to complete your setup and start sending mail from the new address:
    1. Leave this "Verify Account" page open.
    2. Retrieve the email sent by Yahoo! Member Services to your alternate email address.
    3. Enter the "confirmation code" from this email into the Confirmation Code field in the "Verify Account" page in Rogers Yahoo! Web Mail.
    4. Click Verify Account.
    5. Sign in with your Rogers Yahoo! Password on the final page.
    6. Your alternate email address will be verified and can be used for sending emails through Rogers Yahoo! Web Mail or your email software.

Note: Every primary and secondary Rogers e-mail ID can verify up to 10 alternate email addresses each. Customers with greater requirements should should review the web hosting and email options available from Rogers Business Solutions.
