Why is my archiving session failing? |
Archiving large mailboxes can fail if your connection “times out” during the operation.
The larger your archiving session is, the more time it will take, and the more time it takes, the more vulnerable it will be to a timed-out connection. So, the best way to ensure that your archiving session succeeds is to divide it into smaller parts – to archive folder by folder, or to archive by sets of dates.
Archiving by folders
- Click “Options” in the upper-right corner of your mail page.
- Under “Management”, click “Archive Messages”.
- In the pull-down menu after “Folder:”, select an individual folder – not [All Folders].
- Once the folder’s contents have been saved as a .zip file to your computer, move onto the next folder you’d like to archive.
Archiving by sets of dates
- Click “Options” in the upper-right corner of your mail page.
- Under “Management”, click “Archive Messages”.
- Here, you can select [All Folders] (or another folder of your choice), and after “Date:” select a range of dates from the pull-down menus. For example, start by archiving all your emails “dated before” December 31, 2000.
- When that’s done, you can archive everything dated before December 31, 2002. Or however you want to do it!
The idea is to divide your single large job (which has a greater risk of failing) into smaller parts.
Is this enough information?
