Why are my attachments larger after I attach them?

Attachments must be encoded so that other email programs can read them. Encoding attachments can add about 33% to their original size. So a 1.5MB attachment can turn into roughly a 2MB attachment after encoding.

With a Free Rogers Yahoo! Mail account, you can send and receive messages up to 20MB. This means that the total encoded size of the message cannot be greater than 20MB.
