Why are pop-ups now being blocked from sites that I previously told the Rogers Pop-Up Blocker to allow?

If you have recently installed Windows XP Service Pack 2, you should be aware that the new Internet Explorer Pop-Up Blocker was installed and activated by default. This may be interfering with settings within your Rogers Pop-Up Blocker.

Pop-up blocker software can prevent annoying and inappropriate pop-up ads from appearing in the middle of your screen. Good pop-Up blocker software, like the Yahoo! Plus Pop-Up Blocker, allows you to tailor it to match your surfing needs and allow pop-ups from some sites of your choice and not others.

When Windows XP Service Pack 2 is installed, so is the new Internet Explorer Pop-Up Blocker, which has much the same functionality as the Rogers Pop-Up Blocker. Having two pop-up blockers installed is unnecessary and can be confusing as you need to tell each blocker to permit pop-ups from a specific web site.

While the choice of which pop-up blocker software to use is yours, we highly recommend disabling the Internet Explorer Pop-Up Blocker and ONLY using the Rogers Pop-Up Blocker which has been optimized for the Yahoo! Plus Internet service.

To turn off the Internet Explorer Pop-Up Blocker:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click "Tools" menu, select "Pop-Up Blocker," and then click "Turn Off Pop-Up Blocker."
