Yes! You sure can. With Yahoo!7 Mail, you can retrieve messages from most external email accounts. Outlook, Eudora, or Netscape Mail inboxes are all accessible from Yahoo!7 Mail after following the brief set-up procedure below. And with Yahoo!7 Mail, you can also send from Yahoo!7 Mail, and the email will appear to be from the other account. It's a convenient way to do all your emailing from one place.

To complete the process, you'll need to find out the mail server name for each account you wish to add. This is the only step that requires anything more than clicking or typing—it requires a conversation. To get this information, talk to either the Internet Service Provider you use to connect to the Internet, or the Network Administrator who controls the system at your work or school. Verify with them that it's a POP server, because only POP servers are supported at this time. Yep, P-O-P—they'll know what you mean. (It stands for Post Office Protocol.) Your conversation should go somthing like this

You can either add an account with Yahoo!7 Mail's automatic delivery settings, or you can add an account and manually set the delivery options yourself. Delivery options include choosing the Yahoo!7 Mail folder you want new messages to go into and deciding whether or not emails in the other accounts should stay in those other Inboxes after you read them in Yahoo!7 Mail. You can also choose to get either all your messages from the other account, or only the new ones. Finally, you can apply your Yahoo!7 Yahoo! filters to that other mail, if you want.

Use the first set of instructions to get Yahoo!'s automatic settings. Use the second instructions if you want to manually set the delivery options.

To add an account with Yahoo!7 Mail's automatic delivery settings:

  1. Click "Options" at the upper-right of your Yahoo!7 Mail page.
  2. Under "Management," click "Mail Addresses."
  3. Click the "Add" button.
  4. Enter an account name—whatever you'd like to call it. For example, "Work," "School," etc. Then either click "Continue" on the lower-left, or press Enter.
  5. Enter your mail server name—the info you got from your Internet Service Provider or Network Administrator.
  6. Enter the user name and password for that account. Please note: The user name is different than the full email address. Typically it is the text before the "@" symbol in your email address. Your password is whatever you use to access that email account—not necessarily your Yahoo! password.
  7. Select an indicator color to mark messages received from this account. This color will highlight any messages in your Inbox that are from the other account.
  8. Click the "Add Account" button. Your account is now added. Feel good?

To add an account and manually select delivery options:

  1. Click "Options" at the upper-right of your Yahoo!7 Mail page.
  2. Under "Management," click the first link, "Mail Addresses."
  3. On the page that opens, click the "Add" button.
  4. In the upper-right corner of this page, click the "Configure Account Manually" link.
  5. Enter an account name—whatever you'd like to call it. For example, "Work," "School," etc.
  6. Enter your mail server name—the info you got from your Internet Service Provider or Network Administrator.
  7. Enter the user name and password for that account. Please note: The user name is different than the full email address. Typically it is the text before the "@" symbol in your email address. Your password is whatever you use to access that email account—not necessarily your Yahoo! password.
  8. Select an indicator color to mark messages received from this account. This color will highlight any messages that are from the other account.
  9. In "Deliver To:," choose a folder to route incoming messages to that are from this account.
  10. In "Options," check (or don't check) the boxes next to the following:
    • Override default POP port: If you know your POP server uses a port other than 110, enter the port number here. Note: To get this information, contact your Internet Service Provider or Network Administrator.
    • Leave mail on POP server: Specify whether messages retrieved to your Yahoo! account will also remain in your external mail account, or whether you want them deleted from your external mail server.
    • Retrieve new messages only: Specify whether Yahoo!7 Mail retrieves only the new messages in your external mail account, or all messages.
    • Use filters:Checking this box applies Yahoo!7 Mail's filters to incoming external mail.
  11. Click the "Add Account" button. Your account is now added. Yes!

Yahoo!7 Mail can't retrieve messages from Web-based email accounts like RocketMail. Also, you won't be able to access another Yahoo!7 Mail account that has already been set up for POP access.

Yahoo!7 Mail can store settings for up to five different accounts at one time.
