Tips for preparing your account for the upgrade

What can I do to get my account ready for the upgrade?

Before your account data is transferred to the new system, there are two important things you can do in advance to help ensure your transition is as smooth as possible:

  • Group similar keywords into categories.
  • For each category, write a single title and description into which your keywords can be inserted.

Group similar keywords into separate categories

  • Overview: Categories allow you to take keywords that are similar and group them together. Each category in your current account will appear as a campaign within your upgraded account. Using categories now will help ensure that your new account is organised .
  • Tip: Create categories for all keywords related to a particular product or product line. Or, group all of the keywords that you manage most closely into one category, to access them easily
  • Example: If you sell electronic products, you should group keywords related to distinct products into separate categories (“cameras,” “video_games,” “DVD_players,” etc.).

  • video games
  • buy video games

How to create a category (in your current account)

  1. In the “Manage Sponsored Search” tab, select the “Manage Categories” sub-link.
  2. Select “Create a New Category.”
  3. Enter the category name and click “submit.” (Note: Category titles must be less than 20 characters and cannot have spaces.)

Write a common title and description per category

  • Overview: Instead of “listings,” your new account will feature “ads” (comprised of a title, description and URL) that will apply to more than one keyword. This will reduce the time you have to spend generating and managing advertising messages.
  • Tip: Write one title and description for similar keywords in your current account to help ensure the right message is displayed to your customers once your account is upgraded. (Titles and descriptions should be short and highly relevant to all of the keywords in your category. Titles should be no more than 40 characters and descriptions should be no more than 70 characters.) For best results, write your title and description in such a way that your keyword can be inserted into it. Also, we recommend that you write unique titles and descriptions for each of your categories.
  • Example: If you have set up categories for cameras, video games and DVD players, write unique titles and descriptions for each of these categories.

Note: Wherever the (keyword) placeholder appears, you can insert each individual keyword to create unique, relevant ads. When your account is upgraded, the templated title and description you created will serve as the core ad for your campaign and each keyword will be automatically inserted. This helps ensure the best match between a user’s search request and your ad.

How to modify creative (in your current account):

  1. In the “Manage Sponsored Search” tab, select the “Manage Listing” sub-link.
  2. Select a category from the “View Category” pull-down.
  3. Select the keywords by clicking the checkbox next to each keyword.
  4. Click the “Edit Listings” button. A pop-up will appear.
  5. Modify your titles and/or descriptions and click on the “Copy” options.
