Why it is sometimes difficult to recover your password.
Resolution
Sometimes it seems Yahoo! makes it very difficult to recover your password. We know this process can be frustrating when all you really need is an easy way to get your password back so you can resume your important tasks.
We also understand there are people out there who see the Internet as a place to steal critical data and victimize everyday users. At Yahoo!, we take our role in protecting the security of your personal information very seriously, and we take every precaution necessary to protect your account.
One of the reasons we ask for security questions is because we don't want to allow easy access to your account to someone that isn't you. Some of the other measures we take to assure the security of your account are:
- Providing the option to reset your password via mobile phone or alternate email address.
- Disabling your password (and account access) when we sense someone is trying to access your account without authorization.
- Broadcasting recent account security issues through the Yahoo! Security Center. Security Center has information of recent issues that have come to our attention regarding account security.
- Notifying you if we believe your account may have been compromised.
We encourage all Yahoo! members to follow a few simple guidelines to help keep critical information secure:
- Change your password frequently and keep your password private.
- If you suspect your account has ever been compromised, changing your password immediately is the very best way to assure damage is minimized.
- Select a secure, strong password.
- Go to your account information page and make sure your information is up-to-date:
- Security questions
- Mobile number
- Alternate E-mail address
- Be suspicious of any email you receive from Yahoo! or another provider you use stating there is a compromise and asks for your account information. This is called "Phishing". It is illegal, and should be reported when it is suspected. Yahoo! will never ask for your account information or password by email.
