Errors While Trying to View/Broadcast a Webcam in Messenger for Mac

ID: SLN1210
Refers to: Messenger for Mac

Description

This article offers troubleshooting steps for encountering errors while using or watching a webcam transmission.

Resolution

There are a few reasons you might receive an error message. You might be behind a firewall preventing webcam use. Try changing your connection settings:

  1. Click on the Yahoo! Messenger and select Preferences.
  2. Click on the Connection tab.
  3. Select the "Behind Firewall" option.

If you're still unable to connect using the "Behind Firewall" option, you might not have the ability to use the webcam feature.

Your firewall must permit outgoing TCP connections on port 5100. Make the following changes to your firewall:

  • Protocol: TCP
  • Server: webcam.yahoo.com
  • Port: 5100

Most Internet service providers (ISPs) don't have firewalls or proxies, but you should contact your network administrator or ISP for accurate information.
