Troubleshooting connection errors in Yahoo! Messenger for Mac

Description

This article provides troubleshooting steps for repairing a connection error.


Resolution

To prevent connection errors, please make sure that you are using the "No Proxies" connection setting.

To update the connection setting:

  1. Select the Messenger menu.
  2. Sselect Preferences.
  3. Select the Connection category on the left.
  4. Select the No Proxies option.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Close Messenger completely and start it again.

This should eliminate the error message.

 

Note: If you're unable to connect using the "No Proxies" option, please reverse your changes.  

Your firewall must permit outgoing TCP connections on port 5100. Please make the following changes to your firewall:
 

  • Protocol: TCP
  • Server: webcam.yahoo.com
  • Port: 5100
