Yahoo! Help Community Guidelines

The Yahoo! Help Community is an online site where participants can seek help, provide answers and feedback and discuss Yahoo! products. Like any other community, we need for you and other members to follow some rules in order to keep things running smoothly. While it may not be the most exciting thing you do today, reading these rules and guidelines will help both you and the rest of the community enjoy a positive experience!

All other Yahoo! terms apply
The first thing you should know is that all activity in the Yahoo! Help Community is subject to Yahoo! Terms of Service and Yahoo! Community Guidelines. These documents provide most of the rules and consequences that you should be aware of before participating. However, below are some additional basic principles to keep in mind.

Be polite
This community is here for real people to seek help and share ideas. Treat others with respect--a little common courtesy can go a long way! Something that seems obvious to you might be new to someone else, so be patient and constructive. If you do, people will tend to return the favor.

Don't be rude
This goes hand-in-hand with being polite. Basically, don't act like a "jerk". You may be here because you are having an issue with a Yahoo! product, and that can be frustrating. Don't take those frustrations out on other members of the community. Profanity, aggressive or insulting language, personal attacks and other offensive behavior are not welcome. Don't do things that might annoy, irritate or otherwise upset others. If you aren't sure what sorts of comments might be off-limits, you should read the Terms of Service.

No "spam"
Do not advertise. Do not post links to advertisements or promotions. Do not try to sell things or post links to things for sale. This community is here for the exchange of help and feedback on Yahoo! products and services. Ads and "spam" will not be tolerated.

Keep the community clean

What should you do if you think that someone else is violating Yahoo’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines? We do our best to keep abusive content out of these forums. However, we can't catch it all. First of all, don't get caught up in a "flame war" by trying to fight back with nasty posts of your own. Instead, look for the "Report Abuse" link next to the comment or topic you find offensive. Use this to report your concern and we will take whatever action we deem appropriate.

Mark answers as Helpful or Solved

When you post a topic as a 'Question', you will later be able to mark any replies to your question as either 'Helpful' or 'Solved'. This lets everyone know which answers are the best and provides credit and appreciation to the people who take the time to help you!

Protect yourself

Be careful what information you share online. Do not post personal or confidential information about yourself or others! Remember that most answers in this community are provided by fellow members like you. Some answers may be incorrect. So, it is your responsibility to think before you accept someone’s advice.

Make your point clearly
The more information you provide, the more others will be able to understand and assist you. Posting "I can't get video chat connected in Messenger 11 on my PC" will receive better answers than "Messenger won't work.” Here are some recommended items to include when asking for help: What product or version of a product are you using? What platform are you using (Windows PC, Mac, mobile phone, etc) What are you trying to do? What steps did you take? What happened? The same goes for answers you give to someone else's questions--include any details that will help members of the community "get it."

Tell us what you think
Whether you’re seeking assistance, sharing your wisdom or just checking things out, we are glad you’re here. As we continue to seek ways to improve your experience, we welcome any constructive feedback you may have. Feedback for the Yahoo! Help site and community can be posted in the Help Community feedback forum. Please understand that, although official Yahoo! representatives can and will be active in this community, we make no guarantee that all questions and comments will be answered.

These guidelines are subject to change without notice, so check back from time to time. By posting in the Yahoo! Help Community, you are agreeing to the guidelines above, the Yahoo! Terms of Service and the Yahoo! Community Guidelines. Failure to abide by these guidelines may have consequences for you including but not limited to the removal of your posts or banning you from the Community.
