Trading players in Fantasy Sports
This article explains how to propose, decline, make a counter offer, or veto a trade. It also explains why a trade "disappeared" or was voided after the review period.
A trade consists of one manager exchanging one or more players (or in Custom leagues, draft picks) with another manager in the same league.
Here’s how trading works:
First, select the team with which you want to trade. Select the players you want to trade, and then select the players you want to trade for.
Yahoo! sends an email to the other manager offering your trade.
That manager goes to their team page to view the proposal:
- If your trade is rejected, you receive an email notifying you of that result.
- If a counter offer is made, you receive an email detailing the new proposal.
- If the offer is accepted:
- If Trade Review is set to "League Votes," the entire league receives an email so managers can review the deal
- If Trade Review is set to "Commissioner," only the involved teams and the Commissioner are notified.
- If no action is taken within 10 days, the offer is canceled.
Please note: Once a proposed trade has been accepted and is displayed as pending, the teams making the trade can no longer cancel the trade. We understand that offers may be accepted in error, but Yahoo! cannot interfere in the trade review process in Public or Custom Leagues.
All Public Leagues use "League Votes" as their trade review setting. If four or more managers object within two days, the trade is vetoed.
In a Custom League, either the league managers or the Commissioner have veto power for the length of time chosen during league configuration.
If your Custom League is configured to use the League Vote option, one-third of the league managers must vote against the trade for it to be vetoed. For example, if your league has 12 teams, four votes are needed to veto the trade.
Note: We always round fractions up, so a league of 10 teams also requires four votes, even though one-third of ten is actually 3 1/3.
In a Public League, the “reject time” is two days. In a Custom League, the commissioner can set the trade reject time from zero to seven days.
During the review period, trades are marked as “pending.” After the trade has been accepted and the review period has ended, Yahoo! processes the trade and updates each team's roster. Processing can take up to 24 hours.
Limitations on Trading
- While a trade is in review, managers can’t make other transactions involving any players who are involved in another trade.
- Players can only be involved in one transaction at a time. So, even if a player has been offered to a number of teams, after any one of the trades has been accepted, no other manager can accept a deal involving the traded player.
- No manager can have more than five pending trades per league.
- During the trade review period, a team cannot make a roster move (add/drop, another trade processing, moving player off DL) that would subsequently put it over the roster limit when the trade would process; otherwise, the trade will automatically be rejected. It is both managers' responsibility to ensure their team meets the above conditions after a trade has been accepted. Yahoo! will not process a trade retroactively that was rejected by the system.
