Keeper league basics

Description

The fundamentals of keeper leagues.

Resolution

In a keeper league, one or more players are kept on a fantasy roster from season to season. This is in contrast to a standard fantasy league, where all managers start with a blank slate and draft a completely new team each year.

A keeper league adds a new level of strategy to playing Yahoo! Fantasy Sports, since the decisions to add, drop, and trade players have consequences beyond the current season. For example, keeper leagues allow managers who may not contend for a championship this season to start building their team for next year. They could trade a veteran player who can help a playoff-bound team for a young, up-and-coming rookie who will help the out-of-contention team in the future.

There are numerous formats to choose from, so the league should decide which format works best for them. Leagues can decide how many players each team can keep and the deadline to declare keepers.

Our keeper management tools allow you to reuse rosters from a previous season. These tools are available only for renewed leagues.

Keeper management tools allow commissioners to:

  • Import rosters from last season
  • Set deadlines for keeper selections
  • Provide teams detailed instructions about making keeper selections
  • Confirm and/or edit teams' keeper picks after the deadline
  • Place keepers into certain rounds of their draft order

However, if you are a commissioner wanting to turn your league into a keeper league, this is possible as well.

Here is a video that will help you understand how to renew leagues and use keepers.
