Scoring types for a Fantasy Sports league
Description
This article will provide examples of the different Fantasy league scoring types.
Resolution
There are three different head-to-head scoring options, a Rotisserie (Roto), and a Points Only scoring format available:
Head-to-Head Standard
- There are no point modifiers assigned to Head-to-Head stat categories in a standard Yahoo! Sports Fantasy league.
- Your team will square off in a weekly matchup against another manager's to see who can compile the best stats across a number of different categories.
- A new weekly matchup begins every Monday and consists of a number of games based on your league's statistical categories.
- There are no daily wins or loses awarded in Head-to-Head leagues.
- Each stat category counts as one game, with the win going to the team with the highest total in that category.
- The score displayed each day is the progress of your weekly matchup, updated to include yesterday's stats.
- If the two teams end up tied in a given category, each will receive credit for a tie. Example, if your league uses 10 statistical categories, and your team wins six of them and ties in one in a Fantasy week, your record for that week is 6-3-1.
- This weekly win-loss total will be added to a cumulative season record, which will be used to determine standings.
- Head-to-Head scoring is available in both Public and Private Leagues. All Public Leagues use the same default settings while Private League Commissioner's will be able to specify a number of settings including roster size and stat categories.
Head-to-Head One Win
- Like in the standard Head-to-Head format, each team will square off in a weekly matchup against another manager's team to see who can compile the best stats across a number of different categories.
- A new weekly matchup begins every Monday and consists of a number of games based on your league's statistical categories.
- Each stat category counts as one "point," and the team with the most stat category wins at the end of the week receives a win while their opponent will get a loss.
- Example: If your league uses 10 statistical categories, and your team wins six of them in a Fantasy week, your record for that week is 1-0.
Head-to-Head Points
- In each week's Head-to-Head matchup, teams will accrue Fantasy points based on the stat categories and modifiers selected by a league Commissioner and earned by players in their starting lineups for each day.
- Players on the bench for any given day will not accrue points, even if they play in an actual game.
- Points are not divided among different stat categories and scored separately. Instead, your team will have a cumulative point total for all players for that Fantasy week.
- The team that finishes the matchup with the highest point total gets credit for a win, while the opponent gets charged with a loss. If the two teams end up tied in points, both teams get credit for a tie in the standings.
Rotisserie (Roto)
- In a Rotisserie League, fantasy teams are ranked from first to last in each of several statistical categories. Points are then awarded according to order of finish in each category and are totaled to determine an overall score and place.
- If you are in a 12-team league, the team with the most free throws will receive 12 points, the team with the second most will receive 11 points...etc.
- In the case of a tie, each team involved receives an average of the total points due--i.e., if two teams were tied for first in a category, each would receive 11.5 points [(12 + 11) / 2 = 11.5].
Since scoring is updated each evening following that day's games, it is possible for your ranking to rise or fall in one or more categories. Therefore, your overall ranking within your league can rise or fall as well based on your team's performance relative to the other teams in your league.

Points Only
- Teams will accrue Fantasy points based on the stat categories and modifiers selected by a league Commissioner and earned by players in their starting lineups for each day.
- Players on the bench for any given day will not accrue points, even if they play in an actual game.
- Points are not divided among different stat categories and scored separately. Instead, your team will have a cumulative point total for the entire Fantasy season, with the team accumulating the most points to date leading the standings.
