What to do when your add contact request isn't received

ID: SLN626
Refers to: Messenger 11.5 , Messenger 11 , Messenger 10 and earlier , Messenger for Mac , Messenger Mobile , Messenger iPhone , Messenger Android

Resolution

Although you may not always receive an error message, it is possible that your add request was not sent. You may have exceeded the limit on the number of add requests that can be sent during the course of a given hour or day. This limit was put in place to protect you and other users of Yahoo! Messenger from receiving add requests from spammers. According to our policies, we cannot disclose the specific limits nor disable them.

If the add request you sent to a friend was not received, please wait an hour and try again. If the request still does not go through, please wait 24 hours and send the request again.

Additional Information
  • When you add a contact to your Messenger List, the contact also gets added to your Yahoo! Address Book.
  • The contact is automatically notified and given the option to allow or deny your add request.
    - If the contact denies your request, they won't appear in your Messenger List.
  • You can add up to 1,000 contacts to your Messenger List.
