How to block SMS text messages from being sent to a mobile phone from a Yahoo! Messenger account
Description
This article explains how to use commands to block text (or "SMS") messages from being sent to a mobile phone from a Yahoo! Messenger account. The customer can block all Yahoo! accounts from sending SMS text messages or they can block just a specific account.
Resolution
With Yahoo! Messenger and Yahoo! Mail you can send SMS text messages to someone on their mobile device if they have a Yahoo! account. This works the same way as sending an SMS text message from one mobile device to another. And just as anyone can call your cell phone number, anyone can send an SMS text to your mobile device.
When someone sends your mobile device an SMS text message from Yahoo! Messenger or Yahoo! Mail, you get a message that asks if you want to accept it. If you do, you can reply with "y" and you'll receive the message. You can also choose to ignore it and not receive the message. You can go one step further and use commands to block all SMS text messages or only those from specific Yahoo! accounts.
How to send a command to block all SMS text messages:
- Send this message text:
- To: 92466
- Message text: block all
How to send a command to block SMS text messages from an individual Yahoo! account:
- Send this message text:
- To: 92466
- Message text: block (their Yahoo! ID)
These commands will block SMS text messages originating from Yahoo! Messenger and Yahoo! Mail from reaching your mobile device.
Note: A sender is automatically blocked from sending you more SMS text messages if they've sent three SMS text messages to your mobile device and you haven't responded to any of them. You need to send them a response if you do want to get any more messages from them. For more information, see the help article about SMS text sending limits and using the reset command.
