Here is how to send text messages:
- Add your friend's mobile number to their contact card. A contact card appears when you place your mouse over a contact ID on your Messenger List. For directions on how to edit contact information, go to the help article, Can I edit my contacts from Yahoo! Contacts in Yahoo! Messenger?.
- Include the country dialing code. For example, a phone number in the US would begin with +1 (example, +1-555-555-5555). For more information on this subject, go to the help article How do I make domestic calls in Yahoo! Messenger?.
You can send a text (SMS) message to your friend starting from the main Yahoo! Messenger window, from a Conversation window, or from Contact Details.
Starting from the main Yahoo! Messenger window or a Conversation window:
- Select Send an SMS Message from the Actions menu.
- Select the contact you want to send a message to.
- Click OK.
- Type your message and click Send.
From Contact Details:
- Roll your mouse over a contact ID in your Yahoo! Messenger List or Yahoo! Contacts.
- Click the small SMS button.
- Type your message and click Send.
Now you're all set up to text your friends on their mobile devices.
Additional notes:
- For your friend to successfully receive an SMS, your friend has to have a service provider supported by Yahoo!. To see a list of service providers, go to the help article List of Supported Wireless Carriers and Countries for Text Messaging.
- Your friends' wireless carriers might charge fees for both receiving and sending text messages on their mobile devices. The types and amounts of those fees are specific to their carrier and their phone plan. Your friends should contact their wireless carriers to find out what fees apply to them.
