Troubleshooting plug-ins in Yahoo! Messenger

ID: SLN1026
Refers to: Messenger 11.5 , Messenger 11 , Messenger 10 and earlier

Description

This article gives troubleshooting steps for problems with Messenger plug-ins.

Resolution

If the Plug-in you're trying to install fails or isn't working, it could be because:

  • The Plug-in may not be certified by Yahoo!. Yahoo! isn't able to support Plug-ins made by third parties that we haven't certified.
    • Note: The steps further below can still be used to troubleshoot third party plug-ins.  If the issue persists, check the plug-ins "Help" or "About" information to contact the developer for further assistance.
  • The Plug-in may be pulling information from a source that is down or having problems at the moment.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the Plug-in that's causing the problem might solve the problem.

Here's how to uninstall and reinstall the Plug-in in Version 8.1:

  1. Click the Plug-ins button with the green puzzle piece.
  2. Click the My Plug-ins tab at the top of the screen. You should now see your installed Plug-ins.
  3. If the Plug-in has a red Stop button to the right of it, click this Stop button now. (If the button says Start, do not click it.)
  4. Once you've stopped the Plug-in, click on the garbage can to the left of the Start button.
  5. Click the tab at the top labeled Featured Plug-ins.
  6. Select the Plug-in you just deleted from the list of Plug-ins and click on the Try it now link to the right of it. The Plug-in should now be running in Yahoo! Messenger.

Here's how to uninstall the Plug-in on Version 9 or higher:

  1. Click the Plug-ins button at the bottom of your Messenger List and you'll see a listing of your installed plug-ins.
  2. Click the Add Plug-Ins and the "Plug-ins Manager" window will open.
  3. If the plug-in has a red "Stop" button to the right of it, click this Stop button now. (If the button says "Start," do not click it.)
  4. Once you've stopped the Plug-in, click on the garbage can to the left of the Start button.
  5. A pop up box will appear confirming the Plug-in has been uninstalled, click OK.

Here's how to reinstall the Plug-in on Version 9 or higher:

  1. Go back to the Plug-ins Manager window that you accessed in steps 1 and 2, above.
  2. Select the Plug-in you just deleted from the Plug-ins list and click on the green Start button to the right of it. The Plug-in should now be running in Yahoo! Messenger.
