List of text message commands for your phone

This article lists the SMS commands for receiving or blocking Yahoo! Messenger messages on your phone. This can be used to stop unknown or unwanted text messages.


Resolution

These text commands allow you to perform commonly used actions such as blocking text messages and unblocking SMS messages, along with a large number of commands that can be used in SMS replies and mobile messages. Each of the commands listed below should be sent as an outgoing text message from your mobile device to the number associated with your wireless carrier.

Commonly Used Text (SMS) Commands:

To find help: info

Use this command to view a list of the commonly used commands.

To block someone: block (Yahoo! ID)

  • Example: block sapphire_blue_skies

Use this command to block someone from sending additional messages to your mobile device. (To unblock someone use the "unblock" command.) This command can also be used in a reply. See the instructions below, under "Commands Used in Replies."

To block everyone: block all

  • Example: block all

Use this command to block messages that would be sent from all users to your mobile device. (To resume receiving messages from everyone again, use the "unblock all" command.)

To unblock someone: unblock (Yahoo! ID)

  • Example: unblock sapphire_blue_skies

Use this command if you currently have someone blocked and you want to unblock them so they can send messages to your mobile device. This command can also be used in a reply, see the instructions below, under "Commands Used in Replies."

To unblock everyone: unblock all

  • Example: unblock all

Use this command if you currently have everyone blocked on your mobile device and you'd like to start receiving messages from all users.

To reset someone: reset (Yahoo! ID)

  • Example: reset sapphire_blue_skies

Use this command so you can receive messages from someone who was automatically blocked by Yahoo! Messenger. This command can also be used in a reply, see the instructions below, under "Commands Used in Replies."

With Yahoo! Messenger someone is only allowed to send a few messages to your mobile device without receiving a reply from you. After that, any further messages they send you will be automatically blocked. If you want to receive more messages from your friend, you'll need to send them the reset command or simply reply to the message that they sent you.

Text (SMS) Commands Used in Replies:

Note: These commands need to be sent as a reply to the short code of the message you received.

To block a user: block

  • Instructions: Reply to the short code from which the message was received.
  • Example:
    • From carrier short code: 92466601
    • Message sent to you: hello
    • You would reply with: block

Use this command to block someone from sending additional messages to your mobile device. (To unblock someone use the "unblock" command.)

To unblock a user: unblock

  • - Instructions: Reply to the short code from which the message was received.
  • Example:
    • From carrier short code: 92466601
    • Message sent to you: hello
    • You would reply with: unblock

Use this command if you currently have someone blocked on your mobile device and you'd like to start receiving messages from them.

To reset a user account: reset

  • Instructions: Reply to the short code from which the message was received.
  • Example:
    • From carrier short code: 92466601
    • Message sent to you: hello
    • You would reply with: reset

Use this command so you can receive messages from someone who was automatically blocked by Yahoo! Messenger.

With Yahoo! Messenger someone is only allowed to send a few messages to your mobile device without receiving a reply from you. After that, any further messages they send you will be automatically blocked. If you want to receive more messages from your friend, you'll need to send them the reset command or simply reply to the message that they sent you.
