Resolution

There are two ways to block a user from sending you IMs. Please note that if the user is on your Yahoo! Contacts list, you must delete the user from that list first.

Method 1: Block the contact from chat directly in the Chat window

  • In a chat window, click the Block Sender button towards the top of the conversation window to block the sender from contacting you.
Note: This option will not appear if the person is a contact in your Yahoo! Contacts list.

Method 2: Block the contact from chat using the Messenger Options menu

  1. Sign in to Yahoo! Mail.
  2. Click the gear icon (Gear Icon) in the upper-right corner of the window, and select Messenger Options from options that appear. The Messenger Options menu appears in a pop-up window.
  3. From the categories on the left, select Privacy.
  4. Under "Block users in the Block list below...," select the Add button.
  5. Enter the Yahoo! ID of the person you would like to block. Note: This option will not work if the person is a contact in your Yahoo! Contacts list.
  6. Select OK.
  7. Select OK again.

Note: If the person you are trying to block is on your Yahoo! Contacts, you must remove them from your Contacts list first.

To remove a user from your Yahoo! Contacts list:

  1. Go to Yahoo! Mail.
  2. Select the Contacts tab.
  3. Find the contact that you want to remove.

  5. Select Delete.
