How to turn on or turn off Messenger Chat in Yahoo!7 Mail

Learn how to sign in or out of Yahoo!7 Messenger in Mail.


Resolution

If you don't want to have Yahoo!7 Messenger running from within Yahoo!7 Mail, you can turn it off by signing out of Yahoo!7 Messenger in Mail.

Note: It is not possible to completely remove or uninstall the Messenger feature from Yahoo!7 Mail.

To sign out of Yahoo!7 Messenger within the newest version of Yahoo!7 Mail:

  1. Go to Yahoo!7 Mail.
  2. In the top-left corner of the page, click the word Hi followed by your Yahoo!7 ID.
  3. Select Sign out of Messenger from the menu.
    • Your default status will now be "Offline" in Yahoo!7 Mail.

To sign back in:

  1. Click the word Hi followed by your Yahoo!7 ID.
  2. Select Available.

To sign out of Yahoo!7 Messenger within Yahoo!7 Mail Classic:

  1. Go to Yahoo!7 Mail.
  2. Check your current status in the "Chat & Mobile Text" section in the left column below your list of folders.
  3. If your status is "Available," "Busy," or "Invisible":
    • Change it to "Offline": Click the down arrow beside it and select Sign out of chat.
    • Your default status will now be "Offline" in Yahoo!7 Mail.

To sign back in:

  1. Go back to the "Chat & Mobile Text" section, click the down arrow beside your status.
  2. Select Available.

Note: Yahoo!7 Mail saves your Yahoo!7 Messenger status when you leave Yahoo!7 Mail. When you return to Yahoo!7 Mail, it resumes the same status. If your last Yahoo!7 Messenger status was "Offline," you will remain offline. You'll remain signed out until you reactivate it.
