Description

This article explains the common reasons that you are not receiving emails on your Yahoo! Mail account through your mobile device.

Resolution

Listed below are some of the possible root causes for why you are not receiving messages in your Yahoo! Mail account on your mobile device.

Note: Some of the features discussed below can only be accessed or modified from a desktop or laptop computer. If the instructions listed do not work on your mobile device, please sign in to Yahoo! Mail on a computer.

Correct Address:

First, please make sure that the sender has sent the email to the right address (one mistyped letter in an email address can cause an email to be sent to the wrong person). Also, make sure they're able to send emails successfully to other people. If you still don't receive the email, there are a number of other things that might have happened, which are listed below:

The sender's address might be on your Blocked Addresses List.

The Blocked Addresses feature in Yahoo! Mail allows you to create a list of addresses that you don't want to receive mail from. Mail from these senders will neither arrive nor bounce but simply be discarded. This is the most common reason we've seen why emails aren't reaching you. To check your Blocked Addresses list, follow these steps:

Locating Blocked Addresses:

  1. Click the gear icon (Gear Icon) in the upper-right corner of the window, and select Mail Options from the menu that appears.
  2. Click Blocked Addresses in the left column.
  3. Scan your blocked email addresses for the address of the sender.
  4. If you are able to locate the contact, select the email address and then click the trash can icon to remove it from the list.
  5. Click Save if you've made any changes you wish to keep.

The email or emails might be filtered:

If you've set up filters, your emails might be going directly to a folder other than your Inbox. This could even include the Trash folder. Here's how to view your filters:

Viewing Filters:

  1. Click the gear icon (Gear Icon) in the upper-right corner of the window, and select Mail Options from the menu that appears.
  2. Click Filters in the left column
  3. Inspect your filters by clicking a name in the middle column under the "Add" button.
  4. If you find a filter that is causing the problem, you can change the fields on the right or remove it by clicking the trash can icon.
  5. Click Save if you've made any changes you wish to keep.

Note: Emails in the Trash folder can be deleted by the system at any time. Thus, you shouldn't put any emails in the Trash folder unless you want to get rid of them. Once these emails are emptied from the Trash, they're gone forever and can't be retrieved.

The email or emails could be going into your "Spam" folder and being deleted:

It is important to check your Spam folder for the messages. Also, it is important to check the Spam folder settings to ensure messages within this folder are not being deleted immediately. If your Spam folder is set to delete messages immediately we recommend changing it to a different setting.

  1. Click the gear icon (Gear Icon) in the upper-right corner of the window, and select Mail Options from the menu that appears.
  2. Click General in the left column.
  3. In the "Spam Protection" section, select "once a week", "every two weeks", or "once a month" from Empty Spam folder
  4. Click Save if you've made any changes you wish to keep.

The email or emails could be forwarded:

If your Yahoo! Mail account is subscribed to Mail Plus, automatic forwarding could be enabled and your messages could be going to another other email address. Here's how to check:

  1. Click the gear icon (Gear Icon) in the upper-right corner of the window, and select Mail Options from the menu that appears.
  2. Click POP & Forwarding on the left menu bar.
  3. If you're using Auto-Forwarding and would like to discontinue it, do this:
    1. Select the radio button for Web and POP Access.
    2. Click Save if you've made any changes you wish to keep.

The email may have been delayed

Emails are usually delivered within a few minutes, but they can sometimes be delayed while in transit. This is usually due to problems on the sender's mail server, heavy Internet traffic, or routing problems. To find out more about delays, see our help article about delayed emails.
