How to block and unblock people from sending SMS messages to you

This article explains how you can ignore or unignore contacts sending you text messages.


Resolution

You can use the following commands to block or unblock people from using your phone's SMS messaging system. To do this, create an SMS message to Yahoo! short code 92466 with one of the following commands:

  • Block a user: block Yahoo! ID
  • Block everybody: block all
  • Unblock a user: unblock Yahoo! ID
  • Unblock everybody: unblock all

Example of blocking a user:

To: 92466

block dairyman88

This would block user dairyman88 from contacting you via SMS message.

If people sending you SMS messages are getting an error message that your number is not available, this may be function of Yahoo! security measures to limit or reduce spam and invalid messages. The SMS security measure is intended to prevent you from getting large number of SMS charges from your carrier and receiving unwanted SMS messages. The functionality does not permanently block SMS messages to your phone.
