This article has troubleshooting information for customers experiencing these issue while trying to use the Yahoo! Mail app for Android devices:

  • Invalid username/password
  • Correct log-in information doesn't work
  • Android application won't accept my Yahoo! ID and password

Resolution

There are a number of different reasons why you may receive a password-related error, such as "Invalid Username/Password", while attempting to use your Yahoo! Mail account in the Yahoo! Mail app for Android. We've listed some possible root causes for why you may be getting this error and their corresponding troubleshooting steps.

Try a desktop or laptop computer:

  • From your desktop or laptop computer, try signing in to our Yahoo! Mobile homepage at this URL: http://m.yahoo.com/
    - If you can successfully sign in on a desktop or laptop computer, that eliminates your password itself having a technical issue.
    - If you are having problems signing in from your desktop or laptop computer as well, while still on your computer, go to our Password Helper Wizard.

Power cycle the mobile device:

If your password was accepted through the desktop or laptop computer, then it is possible that the mobile device needs to be "power cycled", this will reset the device's temporary memory, which could be holding outdated and inaccurate information.

Note: This will not affect any settings or data on your actual device.

To power cycle your mobile device:

  1. Turn off your phone.
  2. Once the phone is completely powered down, remove the battery (if applicable) and then plug it back in.
  3. Reboot the phone and then attempt to reproduce the issue.

Corrupt account settings:

If the password settings associated with your Yahoo! Mail account on the device have become corrupted, then you will need to remove and re-add your account to the app.

To remove your account from the Yahoo! Mail app for Android:

  1. Launch the Yahoo! Mail app for Android.
  2. Select the Accounts option, from the top-left corner.
  3. Select Manage.
  4. Select your account from the list and select Remove Account.
  5. Select Remove Account again, to confirm.

To re-add your account to the Yahoo! Mail application:

  1. Launch the Yahoo! Mail app for Android.
  2. If you do not have another account configured within the application, you will be prompted to enter your Yahoo! ID and password to add your account and complete the setup.
    - If you are not prompted to enter this information, select Accounts.
  3. From the Accounts page, select Manage.
  4. Select Add Account.
  5. Enter your Yahoo! ID and password.
    - Note: If you want your Yahoo! Contacts synched to the device: Select Sync contacts.
  6. Select Add to add your account and complete the setup.
    - Once your account has been re-added to the application, try to reproduce the issue.
