Yahoo! Maps allows use of longitude and latitude when searching for locations.

To find a location using longitude and latitude coordinates, simply put the coordinates in the Search Maps window, using the following format:

  • Latitude comes first, followed by a comma, then a space, then the longitude.
    • Important Note: Yahoo! Maps uses the Decimal Format (DD.DDDD) when mapping locations by longitude and latitude. There is a third-party conversion utility available (in English) if you need help converting to this format.
  • North and East coordinates are positive, South and West are negative.
  • Note: Use the examples below in terms of how the degrees are measured. Here are coordinates of some familiar landmarks:
    • Statue of Liberty - New York City, NY (USA) = [40.689919, -74.044937]
    • Fisherman's Wharf - San Francisco, CA (USA) = [37.80566434630146, -122.41427063941956]
    • The Great Pyramids - Giza, Egypt = [29.977557613692806, 31.132850646972656]
    • Taj Mahal - Agra, India = [27.18092509202824, 78.02208468317986]

If you know of a location, but need to get the latitude and longitude coordinates, here is how to do it:

  1. In the Search Maps window, enter the location you are looking for.
  2. Make sure the location is correct. If it is:
  3. Look in the address bar. The latitude and longitude are both contained within the URL:
  • Attitude will follow "lat="
  • Longitude will follow "lon="
