Setting up Yahoo! Mail in Windows Live Mail

Please note: this feature is available only to Mail Plus subscribers. For more information on Mail Plus, please visit this webpage.

To set up Yahoo! Mail in Windows Live Mail:

  1. Open Windows Live Mail.
  2. Select Add e-mail account in the left side of Windows Live Mail.
    - "Add e-mail account" opens.
  3. Enter the following information in Add e-mail account:
    • E-mail address: Enter your full Yahoo! Mail email address (e.g., user@yahoo.com).
    • Password: Enter your Yahoo! Mail password.
    • Remember password: Clear this check box (optional) if you don't Windows Live Mail to retain your Yahoo! Mail password.
    • Display Name: Enter the name you want to display on your sent messages.
    • Manually configure server settings for e-mail account: Check the check box for this item.
  4. Select Next.
  5. In the "Add email account " window, enter the following information:
    • My incoming mail server: POP3
    • Incoming server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
    • Port: 995
    • This server requires a secure connection (SSL): Check the check box for this item.
    • Log on using: Clear text authentication.
    • Login ID (if different from e-mail address): Your Yahoo! Mail user name (the part before "@yahoo.com").
    • Outgoing server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com.
    • Port: 465 
    • This server requires a secure connection (SSL): Check the check box for this item.
      • Alternatively, you can enable SSL/TLS and type 587.
      • It is necessary to enable SSL or TLS for Outgoing SMTP server.
    • My outgoing server requires authentication: Check the check box for this item.
  6. Select Next.
    -On successful connection to the Yahoo! Mail servers, the message "You have successfully entered in the information required to set up your account" displays.
  7. To set the Yahoo! Mail account as the default account if you have multiple accounts: Select Set this account as the default mail account.
  8. Select Finish.
