POP Yahoo! Mail with Microsoft Entourage 2001 and Higher

Want to POP your Yahoo! Mail into the Microsoft Entourage email client for Macintosh? Here's how to do it:

  1. Open the Entourage email client (application) and click the Tools menu.
  2. Select Accounts from the pull-down menu.
  3. Click New  in the upper-left corner of the Accounts window.
  4. Enter your name as you would like it to appear to the recipient.
  5. Click the radio button next to I already have an email address that I'd like to use.
  6. Enter your email address in the field provided (e.g., "user@yahoo.com").
  7. Select My incoming mail server is a(n) POP3.
  8. Enter pop.mail.yahoo.com (your incoming mail server) in the field provided.
  9. Select Click here for advanced receiving options in the Receiving mail section.
  10. Check the box next to This POP service requires a secure connection (SSL).
  11. Enter smtp.mail.yahoo.com (your outgoing (SMTP) mail server) in the field provided.
  12. Select Click here for advanced sending options in the Sending mail section.
  13. Check the box next to SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL), and click OK.
  14. Check the box next to Override default SMTP port:, and type 465 in the box.
    • Alternatively, you can type 587 and enable SSL/TLS.
    • Note: It is necessary to enable SSL or TLS for Outgoing SMTP server.
  15. Check the box next to SMTP server requires authentication, and click OK.
  16. In the Account ID field, enter your Yahoo! ID (e.g., your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
  17. Enter your password.
  18. To have the Entourage client remember your password so you won't need to enter each time you send or receive mail, check the Remember password box.
  19. Enter your full Yahoo! email address in the Account Name field.
  20. Click Finish.

Important: The Yahoo! SMTP server requires authentication. To enable this setting, do the following:

  1. Open the Entourage client (application) and click the Tools menu.
  2. Select Accounts from the pull-down menu.
  3. Double-click your Yahoo! account.
  4. In the Account Settings window, scroll to the Sending Mail category toward the bottom.
  5. Select Click Here for Advanced Sending Options.
  6. Check the box next to SMTP Server Requires Authentication.
  7. Close this window by clicking the tiny box in the upper-left corner.
  8. Click OK.

To ensure the new settings are configured properly, we suggest closing the Entourage client and opening it again before sending or receiving messages.
