Decline or block Messenger in Mail chat requests

Resolution

In your Yahoo! Mail account next to “Messenger,” you may see a number in an orange circle. This is a notification icon that means someone is trying to chat with you, or add you as a contact in Yahoo! Messenger.

Decline or Block an add request:

  1. Click the notification icon: Messenger notification
-The Messenger in Mail pop-up window opens.
  2. Click Decline to decline the add request, or click Decline and Block to decline the request and block further requests from the user.

Blocking a chat request (Instant Message):

  1. Click the notification icon.
-The Messenger in Mail pop-up window opens.
  2. Click Block User.

The difference between declining and blocking:

  • When you decline an add request, the user can still Instant Message (IM) you or request to add you in the future.
  • When you block a user, the user cannot request to add or IM you again. Learn more about blocking users in Messenger in Mail.
