How to change a Yahoo! Mail or Yahoo! Messenger Facebook/Google/Other OpenID account password

ID: SLN5355
Refers to: Yahoo! Account , Mail , Mail Classic , Mobile Mail

Description

Yahoo! allows you to access several services by using a Facebook or Google ID in association with OpenID. Typically, these accounts are accessed by signing in through Facebook or Google. However, it is possible to upgrade one of these accounts to a full Yahoo! Account so that you can access services like Yahoo! Mail or Yahoo! Messenger. This article explains how to manage the passwords for each of the sign-in options available for these accounts.

Resolution

Yahoo! password:

To change your password, you need to be logged in with the ID that you want to change.

  1. From any Yahoo! site, click on your username in the upper-right (or upper-left) corner.
  2. From the pull-down menu select Account Info. (You will be asked to sign in again before you can access your "Account Info" page.)
  3. Click Change your password. (You will have fewer account security issues if you select a strong password. For more information, see this help article.)
  4. Follow the instructions to enter your current and new password.
  5. Click Save.

Facebook or Google password:

The login credentials for the Facebook and Google sign-in feature are maintained by their respective companies. To change the password for either of these services, you will need to log in to Facebook or Google directly.

If you are unable to access either of these services, you will need to contact Facebook or Google directly for password recovery assistance.

Other OpenID accounts:

Some older OpenID accounts were able to be created with services other than Facebook or Google. If you have an OpenID account that was created using an alternative service, you will need to contact that service for password assistance.
