POP Authentication Failures

Description

Use this article for customers who are getting an "Enter Network Password" error or who are repeatedly being asked to enter their password when accessing Yahoo! Mail using a POP client program.

Resolution

We are receiving reports of some users being asked to enter their password repeatedly when trying to access Yahoo! Mail via POP.
- For example, if you are using Microsoft Outlook to access Yahoo! Mail, you might see a popup asking you to "Enter Network Password" about once every five minutes.

Our engineering team is currently working on this, and we intend to have it corrected as soon as possible. In the meantime, here are a couple of steps that you can try which might help for this issue:

  1. Change your password if it contains '+' character.
  2. Sign in to Yahoo! Mail using an Internet browser (you may be asked to fill out a CAPTCHA). This may temporarily stop the popups asking you to enter your password.
  3. Make sure that the password stored in your POP client is correct. It will usually be under "Account Settings" or a similar menu.
