How to save email messages to your computer or another mail account.
Resolution
To save or backup your messages you have several options.
To backup messages to your computer:
We recommend you use a text document (like Wordpad, Microsoft Word, Textedit, Oracle Open Office Writer, etc.), and then save the document to your computer. To do this:
- Open a text document program and create a new file.
- Copy and paste the information contained in each email you would like to save.
- Save the file to your local computer.
To back up pictures and other file attachments:
We recommend that you download the files and save them to your local computer.
- Open the message with the attachment you would like to save.
- Scroll to the bottom of the email, and click Download below the attachment.
- Save the file to your local computer.
While we understand this can be time-consuming, it is the only way to back up your files with the free Yahoo! Mail account.
Alternatively, if you are interested in an even easier way to do this, you should try our Yahoo! Mail Plus service which allows you to either use a mail program like Outlook to log in to your mail account and copy your mail or to archive it in to your local computer. To save messages to another mail account, please follow the steps listed below:
Forward emails with the latest version of Yahoo! Mail:
- Locate the message you want to forward in your Yahoo! Mail account.
- Place a check mark beside the message or select the message to open it. Only one message can be forwarded at a time.
- Click the forward button (this is an arrow pointing right) from the toolbar above your message. A new "Compose" tab will open with the original content in the body of the message.
- Place your cursor in the appropriate blank recipient field ("TO:", "CC:", or "BCC:"). Be sure to include any additional text in the email that you want.
- Click Send.
Forward emails within the Mail Classic interface:
- In your "Inbox," click the email that you would like to forward.
- Click Forward.
- This will open a new tab where you can add the email address that you would like to forward the email to.
If you want to retain a physical hard copy, you will need to print the messages.
Print emails in Yahoo! Mail:
- Open the desired email.
- Select Actions | Print Email. This will display a printer friendly version of the message.
- Click Print from the top-right corner of the page.
Your web browser's printer interface will then display, allowing you to customize your print job.
Print emails in the Mail Classic interface:
- In your "Inbox," click the email that you would like to print.
- Click Print from the top-right corner of the page.
- A new window will open with your printer's options.
